Description

A botanical insecticide concentrate

EcoExempt IC3 is EcoSMART's insecticide concentrate with EcoSMART Botanicals: rosemary oil 10%, geraniol 5% and peppermint oil 2%. EcoSMART describes the blend of plant oils as tested and proven to repel and control a broad spectrum of insects. The label covers crawling insects such as ants, bed bugs, cockroaches, fleas, mites, spiders and stored-product beetles, and flying insects such as mosquitoes, flies, gnats and moths, in and around buildings and in modes of transport. It comes in a 3.8 L (1 US gallon) bottle.

Why PCOs use it

One concentrate covers most service types: crack-and-crevice and surface spraying, bed bug spot treatment, fogging, outdoor mosquito barrier treatment and automatic misting systems. It dilutes in water or oil. It is exempt from NEA registration in Singapore, and in the United States it is a minimum risk pesticide, exempt from EPA registration. The plant oils are naturally fragrant.

How to use

Shake well and keep the spray agitated. Label rates are in US fluid ounces per gallon (1 fl oz per gallon is about 7.8 ml per litre). For crawling insects, use 0.5–6.0 fl oz per gallon of water (about 4–47 ml per litre), the lower rate for maintenance and the higher for active infestations, into cracks, crevices and harbourages. For bed bugs, vacuum first, then spot-treat cracks, baseboards, headboards and mattress seams at 1–4 fl oz per gallon (about 8–31 ml per litre).

For flying insects, mix 4–10 fl oz with oil to make 1 gallon (about 31–78 ml per litre) and fog or mist at 1–3 fl oz per 1,000 ft³ (about 1–3 ml per m³); keep the area closed for 15 minutes, then ventilate. For an outdoor mosquito barrier, spray shrubs and vegetation where mosquitoes rest at 1–3 fl oz per gallon of water. In automatic misting systems, use 0.5–3 fl oz per gallon, with continuous agitation. Do not store water dilutions overnight, except in agitated misting systems (up to one month).

Where it fits

The label lists homes, apartments, restaurants, food processing plants, hospitals, hotels, schools, warehouses and kennels, outdoor areas such as building foundations, parks and landscaping, and aircraft, buses, rail cars and vessels. In food plants, remove or cover food for space sprays and do not fog while processing is underway. Test sensitive surfaces such as vinyl, plastics and wood floors first, wipe off excess, cover pools and aquaria, and note that fogging can make painted floors slippery.
